Ghetto Goddess, Atlanta Legend, Drag Icon Lateasha Shaunte Shuntel Dies

Atlanta’s queer scene was rocked this morning with an announcement from veteran Drag performer Shavonna B Brooks that indicated the death of Lateasha Shaunte Shuntel.

A staple at midtown-town neighborhood bar Blake’s on the Park and previous Backstreet employee, Lateasha delighted and shocked audiences; her career survived several creative generations
proving her resilience. No cause of death has been established; however, given the weight of such a massive loss, we at WUSSY do not find it to be appropriate to speculate during this time of collective grieving. She leaves behind a drag family that is comprised of respected names and bonafide legends that include Celeste Holmes, Destiny Brooks, Shavonna B Brooks, Phoenix, Nicole Paige Brooks, Shawnna Brooks, and other nightlife heavyweights.

As the tragedy unfolds, we will be posting links for those interested in donating to Lateasha’s funeral expenses.

Below are a couple more live recordings of the legend herself. Children, take note.

*Update: For those who wish to donate to Lateasha's funeral expenses, please navigate to this GoFundMe page. Lateasha's memorial show will take place this Sunday at Blake's on the Park; all proceeds will go towards her funeral and memorial expenses.
